As leading providers helping Network Operators ensure resilience and accelerate new releases, we at Red Helix host topical round table events with representatives from leading Network Operators where we discuss the latest challenges and views in the Operator arena.

Yesterday we hosted our round table lunch at the Eight Club Moorgate. Supported by our colleagues from the Toyo Corporation, we discussed key topics for Network Operators, including:

  • The types of ‘gotchas’ encountered when rolling out new, higher speed networks
  • Where opportunities can be found for power usage reductions across major infrastructure
  • Considerations for monitoring and troubleshooting 100G & 400G networks and circuits.

In particular, we saw agreement that the view that initiatives for reducing power usage were ‘expensive and difficult to implement’ is becoming difficult to sustain as the price of power for infrastructure and cooling continues to sharply rise. And arguably the rising cost of power could accelerate longer term power reduction initiatives, albeit not with the same pace as we saw when mass home working was made a reality at the start of the pandemic in early 2020.

Our event concluded with a brief demonstration of the Toyo Synesis Portable 100G Lossless Packet Capture platform, where we generated 100GE traffic (from our own range of Keysight, VeEX and Xena Networks traffic generation tools) and showed how the Toyo Synesis platform captured and stored every packet without exception.

Whether you need to reconstruct and analyse network performance issues, security threats, or content for cyber surveillance, capturing every single packet is crucial for building a high-fidelity assessment… or as one guest said: It’s pointless if it ain’t lossless!
